Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. The West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. They often believe it is an island west of Montreal however it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. However, this is not true. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. She had a dream to be a dancer but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond her dance partner. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet 1 inches." As I got bigger than my male dancers, I decided to quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's case it was a nudge from an instructor in drama at high school who led her in the right direction. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the lead part for Anne of Green Gables after she auditioned for. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received the Bachelors in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years, her roles on TV and the big screen have been varied. Her role as Rita from the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of occasions in the first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. The only Canadian actor.
